My Husband and I sold our house about 2 years ago and bought a trailer (very cheap, but such a blessing) to get out of some other debts we had run up over the years!! We want a house eventually (after all our debt is gone). That’s what God spoke to us!! Today I was reading in the Bible and it says, "Owe no man anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fullfilled the law" (Romans 14:8). Does this mean we should wait and stay in the trailer until we have enough money to buy a house out right with no loan??
When this verse says “owe no man anything”, it is not talking about securing a loan for an asset like a home. There are stories all over the Bible about men who borrowed things. In fact, there were laws established to help people retain their inheritances rather than lose them to bad debt.
This verse in Romans is not denying us the right to borrow sensibly. We have to be careful about borrowing so much that we cannot pay it back. Then we would really owe men, but if we make our payments on time we will be in good shape. It sounds as if you have a wise plan, so stick to it, and watch for the blessing of the Lord!
